A further benefit is that course work completed for the AARTB is transferable to Lawrence Tech's baccalaureate program in Media Communication.
A partnership between Lawrence Tech and the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts makes it possible for students to earn their associate degree by combining the practical knowledge gained at Specs Howard with courses from Lawrence Tech's core liberal arts curriculum and several focused communication electives.
Students who successfully complete the eight-month curriculum at Specs Howard are eligible to transfer 24 credits toward the 60 credit hours required for the AARTB. Those who have completed Specs Howard's 12-month curriculum can transfer an additional three credit hours. This program is offered EXCLUSIVELY to students who have completed either the 8-month or 12-month curriculum at Specs Howard and is not open for general admission.

Lawrence Tech’s AARTB program has also been designed to complement the objectives of the Specs Howard curriculum by incorporating two specially designed communication courses: Writing for Broadcast Media and the Associate's Seminar. The first focuses on developing the distinctive style of writing required for broadcast media. The second explores current issues in broadcasting, collaborative and interpersonal communication, broadcast writing and editing, and radio and television industry technology.
The goal of the AARTB program is to provide you with the capabilities needed for a successful career, including:
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of collaborative and organizational communication practices used in team supervision and motivation
- A thorough understanding of rhetorical and ethical considerations that play a key role in broadcasting news presentations
- Leadership and project management skills
Requirements:
This 60-credit-hour program consists of:
- 24 credit hours awarded as transfer credits upon completion of the eight-month curriculum at Spec Howard. (Students who complete the 12-month curriculum at Specs Howard are entitled to transfer one additional course—three credit hours—toward fulfillment of the requirements for the AARTB.)
